Description
Probably the most well-known of the NZ tree ferns, celebrated as New Zealand’s national symbol. Fronds form a beautiful shuttlecock shape and turn silver on the underside as they mature, reaching up to 4 m in length. The tall, slender trunk develops more slowly than Cyathea medullaris but can reach 10 m. Best suited to partial shade and sheltered conditions. Historically used by Māori as sleeping bedding and as night-time track markers, placed silver side up.
